Iowa population up to 3.12 million in latest Census estimate

The state began to reverse that trend in 2004 because of increased oil activity, and the population has grown every year since. The state last saw annual population gains top 100,000 back in 2008 and before that during the tech boom in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press report Tuesday the state's population rose about 0.1 percent, or 6,270 residents, between July 2014 and last July.

The bulk of Florida's population increase in the past year came from migration, rather than natural increase.

NY is firmly in fourth place as the most populous state: after California (39,144,818); Texas (27,469,114); and Florida.

Only Texas had a bigger gain in pure numbers, and the Lone Star State added 490,000 residents.

McCrory added that the state's transportation system and other infrastructure need to be upgraded as North Carolina continues to grow.

Nationwide, North Dakota was the nation's fastest-growing state, increasing by 2.3%, followed by 1.9% growth each in Colorado, the District of Columbia and Nevada.

The growth rate of 4.3 percent from 2014 to 2015 was slightly above the national average.

If this were 2020, MI would lose one of its 14 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to population estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau today. During the same time period, the US population increased 0.8%, or 2.5 million people. The Census Bureau uses births, deaths, administrative records and survey data to develop estimates of population.
