Gamestop CEO hints at PlayStation VR delay

Speaking to Game Informer, Sony commented on the interview by stating that release date information from Gamestop was all speculative.

The virtual reality war in the gaming industry is heating up, with a number of big-name players already lining up their VR devices for release this year.

Specifically, Marks says that his company's VR platform has "at least as much indie development for VR as we do for Playstation".

Oculus drops in March, and Vive arrives in April - but what about PlayStation VR? As some gaming fans may be aware, tthe product's original launch date was previously announced for sometime in early 2016. Those millions of customers will have a console that's ready to run high-end virtual reality games on day one of the PlayStation VR launch.

It seems a bit odd because GameStop CEO looked and sounded pretty sure when he said they will start shipping PlayStation VR is Fall.

Back in November 2015, Sony showed off the PlayStation VR with a video that unveiled the unit's hardware specifications.

Low latency is crucial for a great VR experience, and Sony reduced latency to less than 18ms, about half of what the first PlayStation VR prototype had. "We're in discussions with Oculus, HTC, and Sony".

But Sony has yet to announce an official delay or rescheduling of the PlayStation VR, so what Paul Raines is saying here is somewhat unclear. When it comes to deciding on a headset based on this factor, Sony's device comes out as the best choice.

With the Oculus Rift to begin shipping next month and HTC's Vive pre-orders to launch in a couple of weeks, we may now know when Sony's PlayStation VR headset will make an appearance as well. Explaining the change, the company said PlayStation VR would be more familiar to PlayStation users. In all likelihood, though, Sony will probably try to bring the price down to something a lot more reasonable before it hits retail shelves for consumers.
