New interesting Saab 9-3 for 2012! Expect power and style!

The Swedish carmaker Saab, with its new Spyker ownership seems to be working hard to recover lost glory, market shares and accolades alike. Though a new 9-3 is expected sometime this year, reports suggest that Saab is working on an all new 9-3 due sometime in 2012.

The new car might just be tagged as the 93, and shall be a direct competitor to cars like the Audi A3. The car is expected to be launched as a sedan, followed by a convertible and a 3 door hatch variants in the pipeline. Also Saab is trying to tag the car as a successor the original 900 and 9-3. Saab might be using the Delta platform sourced from GM and engines might be shared with MINI Coopers thanks to their collaboration with BMW. Expect the 1,6L diesel and petrol engines to make appearances in respective variants. Hence, the Saab might be comfortably deemed powerful given the compact nature of the much used Delta Platform. Saab might be using front wheel drive as standard and an optional all wheel drive tranny powered by either a 6 speed manual or a dual-clutch semi-automatic. Tesla reveals sizzling upcoming concepts!

The much exclusive electric car maker Tesla had a nice box of chocolates at their recent conference which was open to prospective investors right before their first IPO. Their hot electric saloon car, the Model S is expected sometime this year or soon. So Tesla used this box of chocolates to lure further investors.

Now before further confusion, let me just break it up that this box of chocolates is three models to be based upon the Model S, a convertible, a cross-over and a van. Tesla showcased renderings of these concepts and given that the Model S is a very exclusively good looking car, these renderings raise hope in good numbers.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk spoke about the models and Tesla’s aggressive foray into the Automotive Market this year and their strategies. He said that they would bind to company-owned dealership franchisees and make the car ownership experience as good as it might get. He also remarked that presently this is one of the worst retailing experiences one has in any market and that Tesla is positive on changing it. He also hope they would be able to cash in on providing hassle free warranty and service facilities which is not the case with licensed but privately run dealerships who try to gain profits on service and repairs.

He also added that the Model S saloon shall be made exclusive and desirable in its segment with never before seen features like 4G internet access, touch screen multimedia interfaces, etc accompanying class leading build quality and design. The car is expected to go fly off 50 showroom floors when it releases and Tesla plans to make 20,000 models a year and are said to reach the break-even point by 10,000 models. Well, it’s safe enough to say that the hordes of fans Tesla gained by selling the Roadster are waiting!

Porsche 918 Spider headed for Pebble Beach Concours!

Porsche is taking the famed 918 spider which is already pulling in lots of interested customers to the, err famed Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance coming up very soon. An inside source is said to have revealed AutoCar that the “car will be there”.

Quite a feat to call such a thing as merely a ‘car’ given its V8 engine pumping out 500 horses mates to two electric motors to take that figure up to 718. This car is well, much awaited for given almost as many as 900 customers have shown interest in it. Under these circumstances, Pebble Beach is quite the logical step for the manufacturer to showcase the car. They might as well pull in the last 100 interested customers to take the figure to a magical 1000.
Given this demand and confirmations of its outing at Pebble Beach, it’s only time before we hear Porsche stating to put the 918 into production. Talking about Pebble Beach, this years event is slated to be held on the 15th of August, and shall be specially hosting pre 1960s American Motorcycles, hot rods, a special focus on Bonneville Racers, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Pierce –Arrows and designs by Ghia. For what is essentially an event where the best of the tire takes to the best of the turf, at the eighteenth fairway at Pebble Beach, the 918’s presence shall be truly worthwhile.

New Land Rover Range Rover Diesel for 2011!

With a much freshened up design doing the rounds, and confirming earlier reports and rumours, Land Rover has officially announced the New Range Rover. It features revised exterior and interior with some really special design tweaks on the outside centered around the grille and the bonnet area.
There is a special exterior design pack option which gives fog lamp surrounds, titan sprinkling on the grille and side sills, treated exhaust outlets et al for the visual oomph that one might usually expect from a big Rangie. LR is calling the much smoother new grille design the “Jupiter” look grille while also expect stainless steel exhaust outlets if you’d ticked the Exterior Design Pack Option. Interior spoiling can also be expected with some very special luxury features to cocoon the occupants while they take down the roughest of terrains with ease using the Terrain Response System.
The nicest surprise has to be the introduction of a new turbocharged direct injection 4.4L V8 diesel engine replacing the 3.6L TDV8. This engine is claimed to produce 308 horses and also take this big ute to 60mph in 7.5 seconds. Expect a top speed of around 130mph. Land Rover has taken all careful measures in their PR work to state the optimum combination of high performance, fuel economy and lowered emissions on this model “World Class”. Yes, this car has improved fuel economy and reduced emissions as LR claims it to be with a top whack of 30 miles to the gallon, the highest ever for an Rangie achieved!
If you want more exclusivity notwithstanding the already posh ‘general’ Range Rover, LR might also offer one of their Limited Edition 40th Anniversary Special of the car which has much revised and treated interior and exterior with some weird sounding but striking colours. Barolo Black or Fuji White, anyone? But one sad bit might be that the Diesel powered Rangie might not make it to American shores while it’s expected to go on sale in Europe.

Audi’s electric sensation E-Tron makes Le Mans Debut!

Audi’s new electric concept car sensation the E-Tron has been surprisingly run at Le Mans 2010 24 hours endurance race. Rather it was showed off at the race to give a peek into whats cooking under Audi’s tent for the future!
The car fabulously does 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds using four electric motors mounted two on each axle and pumps out 313 bhp. Impressive figures one might say! It also looks closely similar to the very good looking R8 from Audi’s stable while the company claims otherwise as far as its manufacturing goes. They claim that the E-Tron’s underpinnings et al are entirely newly conceived while the version at Le Mans is only based on the R8.
The car was shown off in a nice black and gold livery while production versions are expected to be vrooming down roads in 2013. Actually, since it’s an electric it might be hard to expect that vroom! As far as the enthusiast community goes, this has been warmly welcomed given that Audi chose the R8 as a starting point to begin ‘electrifying’ their range. The Le Mans debut only confirmed serious moves being made by the German Manufacturer towards having a greener line-up and being politically correct!

New Volkswagen Jetta Revealed! Hotter new sedan on offer!

VW has taken the wraps off their all new sedan the much successful, Jetta. As expected,VW is targeting this car primarily for the US market and has released several details along with a review video of the car.
The car is based on the Coupe platform which was showed by VW at the recent Detroit Motor Show. The car also derives various other styling cues from the current crop of good looking VW small cars like the Golf, Scirocco and Polo. Bolder new bonnet lines and shoulder lines mark the car distinctively to say the least. As is the trend with revamps of any modern car, the car features extended wheelbase and width as well as slightly extended overall length thus finding more space on the inside is a given. In fact this is the most spacious Jetta ever.
Engine trims should be revolving around the standard 2.5L I5 engine, followed by optional 2 L turbocharged gasoline and diesel versions. The diesel version is claimed to do close to 42mpg on the highway while it also meets all the new emission norms levied in the US. Europe might get a host of other engine options as well mostly focusing on smaller yet efficient variants. The biggest piece of cherry on the cake has to be the lowered price tag for the base line S variant which begins at $15,995.
The car might feature six speed trannys across the range with the TDi and TSi variants featuring the famed VW DSG 6 speed gearbox. So expect smooth drives down the line when the car hits showrooms this fall. VW is backing on this model to take them to some hefty sales figures!

Audi wins 1-2-3 at Le Mans 2010! Clean Sweep for the Germans!

In yet another marvellous race and an amazing event filled with exuberance and thrill, Audi took the top honours at Le Mans 24 Hours Endurance Race 2010. Audi, who have been long running masters of the course here at Le Mans with their diesel powered LMP cars, have famously lost out to Peugeot in their amazing bid last year for the title with their capable HDi powered LMPs. However, things seem to be back in the German’s hands with Audi clean sweeping out the stakes at Le Mans with all first, second and third places bagged by the Ingolstadt based Manufacturer.
Reliability issues bugged a lot of manufacturers and teams this time when even Peugeot had their leading 908s retiring and Audi Sport North America team with drivers Mike Rockenfeller, Timo Barnhard and Romain Dumas clinched the overall victory. The other two factory run teams wrapped up the podium for the brand with the 4 interlocked rings. Audi proved a significant point or two this time again while again projecting their diesel technology into the limelight at rocket speeds. The deal closer this time has to be their new variable geometry turbine for the turbo charged diesel engines in the R15 TDI LMP racer.
In the GT class too, this trend of lacking reliability continued with Teams like Rizi Competizione Ferrari retiring due to gearbox troubles. While a controversial move by GT2 class leading Corvette’s driver Anthony Davidson crashed the corvette rendering it out of the race, in GT1 class the leading Matech-Ford GT1s also retired. The GT2 class title was clinched by the Team Felbermayr-Proton running on Porsches.
In a race that seemed to be quite eventful, only 50% of the competitors finished while the winning Audi team also set the record for the longest distance covered by completing 397 laps thus doing an impressive 5410.7km. That should sound like great news for endurance racing fans. It is undisputable that Le Mans has proved itself to be quite the phenomenon that it always remained.

Ferrari V6 engines? Likely prospects in the future!!!

Looks like the fuel economy fever has hit and burned down Maranello’s gates as well. With a hybrid (in mega symbolic scarlet green) at the recent Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari has shocked the tifosi. One more interestingly bad news for the tifosi could be that Ferrari is seriously considering the V6 as a possible engine platform in some of its future models in a bid to go for better fuel economies and lesser emissions.
Ferrari President Luca Di Montezemolo has recently suggested AutoCar that in the future, they might consider bringing back the V6 engine. Yes, bringing back is the operative word here as Ferrari has already tried this platform earlier. They had two different versions of the V6 in their much famed Dyno Sports Car. However, Ferrari would not go soft on their cars as Luca assured with the V6 engines featuring all that is expected from a Ferrari, Power, feel and amazing soundtracks.
One good news on the other hand is Ferrari is not considering a move away from the V12 engine in any case as such. In Luca’s words “Ferraris are there to be enjoyable”. Hence they would not consider taking the V12 out of the hood of any prancing horse whatsoever but might turbo charge their V8s in favour of better fuel economies.
So that wraps up some of the latest fizz from Maranello for the purist tifosi!

BMW 1 Series Recall! The bug strikes Bavaria!

Looks like the Automotive Recall Bug has struck again this time on the very unexpected of places called Bavaria in Germany! Yes, BMW has hit the recall button fearing a fire problem on its 1 series model.
On all 1 series models ranging between the model years 2008-2011, BMW fear a fire problem. This problem might occur due to an unsafe clearance level between the vehicle’s insulation material and the seat belt pretensioner. This might create an unwanted rubbing between the seat belt and the insulation material causing a fire in the event of an accident.
Following this finding, BMW stopped all further sales of its 1 series model and is going through remedy procedures and has also issued a recall on all such models sold earlier. BMW Dealers shall fix this problem by trimming the material between he seatbelt and the insulation material. Though BMW failed to give a time frame to this recall issue for deliveries to begin again, since they have the solution at hand, sales should resume soon.
