VW has taken the wraps off their all new sedan the much successful, Jetta. As expected,VW is targeting this car primarily for the US market and has released several details along with a review video of the car.
The car is based on the Coupe platform which was showed by VW at the recent Detroit Motor Show. The car also derives various other styling cues from the current crop of good looking VW small cars like the Golf, Scirocco and Polo. Bolder new bonnet lines and shoulder lines mark the car distinctively to say the least. As is the trend with revamps of any modern car, the car features extended wheelbase and width as well as slightly extended overall length thus finding more space on the inside is a given. In fact this is the most spacious Jetta ever.
Engine trims should be revolving around the standard 2.5L I5 engine, followed by optional 2 L turbocharged gasoline and diesel versions. The diesel version is claimed to do close to 42mpg on the highway while it also meets all the new emission norms levied in the US. Europe might get a host of other engine options as well mostly focusing on smaller yet efficient variants. The biggest piece of cherry on the cake has to be the lowered price tag for the base line S variant which begins at $15,995.
The car might feature six speed trannys across the range with the TDi and TSi variants featuring the famed VW DSG 6 speed gearbox. So expect smooth drives down the line when the car hits showrooms this fall. VW is backing on this model to take them to some hefty sales figures!
