Ang Lee to begin shooting for ‘Life of Pi’ soon—visits Kerala

This is something all movie-lovers must be seriously anticipating. Another Ang Lee blockbuster! The eminent director of ‘Brokeback Mountain’ is set to begin shooting for the silver screen adaptation of Yann Martel’s ‘Life of Pi’ which bagged the Man Booker Prize in 2002.

The movie is believed to be set in Kerela, a southern Indian state. While auditions for the lead had already begun earlier, the ace director stopped in Mumbai for the Indian round of casting and later explored possible locations in Puducherry for the movie.
Production house 20th Century Fox has announced that the filming will commence soon and Lee is currently dividing his time between New York and Southern India for the movie.

“Lee has completed his recce in Kerala and Puducherry,” reports a source.

Earlier in 2009, Lee, who has won international acclaim for movies like ‘Brokeback Mountain’, ‘Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon’ and ‘Hulk’ among others, had taken over the project from Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

‘Life of Pi’ tells the story of “Pi” Molitor Patel, an Indian boy from Puducherry, who survives a shipwreck, and is stranded with a tiger named Richard Parker, a hyena, a zebra and an orang-utan in a small lifeboat. Martel’s explorations of the myriad issues of spirituality won him wide plaudits and fame. We hope on screen, it’s as good a story of Pi as befits him.
