Big Boss is one of the most watched reality shows on Indian Television. Aired on the TV Channel ‘Colours’, this show is the Indian version of the internationally acclaimed show-‘Big Brother’. However just three seasons old in India and the show unlike its UK counterpart, has begun facing problems of not only falling TRP’s but also of roping someone popular to host the show.
The first three seasons of the show were hosted by Actor Arshad Warsi, Shipla Shetty, actress and a former contestant and the winner of the U.K version of this show and Amitabh Bachchan respectively. The producers are now trying their luck in roping in another celebrity to host the show for the current 4th season. Apparently they follow a policy of not repeating hosts and this year host hunting is giving them a big headache.
The producers are facing two bottlenecks when trying to find a host; firstly after having someone as legendary as Amitabh Bachchan as the host in the last season, they need to find someone as popular and stylish as him in order to meet the expectations of the audience now. Secondly the show has been facing falling TRP’s as compared to its first season. In fact its third season has said to have survived only because Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was its host and people tuned in to view the show because of the superstar.
The producers had approached ‘King of Bollywood’, Shah Rukh Khan to host the show, as he seemed the ideal person to keep up with Mr Bachchan , however SRK refused citing date problems even though he was reportedly offered a pay packet higher than his predecessor Amitabh Bachchan . The producers are now running pillar to post in trying to get another big name associated with the show- Akshay Kumar. They are several other names in the pipeline but officials from Colors, have chosen to keep all names being approached under wraps. It appears that no Bollywood ‘A’ actors are ready to associate themselves with a show which has in the past not been well received by the audience.
A channel insider has even gone ahead and stated that in case they fail to get Akshay as a host , they might just end up opting for a non-celebrity to anchor Big Boss. Looks like Big Boss will then soon be on its way to become a big flop.
