‘Inception’ movie on a strong footing—Sorcerer’s Apprentice flops

Christopher Nolan’s Inception is indeed on a very strong footing. According to film distributor Warner Bros., the film raked up an estimated $60.4 million, despite a mixed reaction from different age lines. However, what can arguably be called the disaster of the month is Walt Disney Studios’ new version of the classic tale "The Sorcerer’s Apprentice," which grossed a meager $17.4 million in the weekend and a pathetic $24.5 million since it debuted Wednesday.

Inception, which features Leonardo DiCaprio as an agent who invades target’s dreams, got off to a promising start, though it wasn’t a instant hit. Loved by the youth and praised by various critics, the film also brooked a little criticism as older movie-goers were rather confused. Moviegoers under 25 gave "Inception" an average grade of A, according to market research firm CinemaScore; those over 25 gave it a B and the over-50 crowd gave it a B-minus.

Referring to the younger audience, Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution for Warner Bros. said, “Our core showed up and they loved it. I totally understand that those in the older age groups got lost in it and so that group is polarized."

Inception’s fortunes are indeed at the antecedent, given that the movie has already raked up about $8.6 million in Great Britain on the day of opening.
