Lady Gaga’s name has in her short career span become synonymous to the music industry and hence any kind of injustice or ignorance showered toward her goes unacceptable by her admirers.
The Grammy Award organizers have seemed to realize this fact and have gone ahead and tweaked their rules to ensure that an upcoming talent like 24 year old Lady Gaga is never in the future again deprived of the honour they so deserves.
The ‘Poker Face’ singer apparently was not awarded the ‘Best New Artist of the Year’ award last year by Grammy’s despite clearly being the biggest new artist to emerge on the music scene. The pop diva was considered ineligible for the nomination as she had been nominated the year before in a different category. In 2008 Gaga’s single ‘Just Dance’ had earned a nomination.
Grammy’s above decision was snubbed widely by Gaga followers and after facing the heat the Grammy Award organisers have changed the eligibility rules for earning a nomination for the best new artist category. "There will be some changes so that particular situation won’t repeat itself," said Academy President Neil Portnow.
The new rules will allow previous Grammy nominees to be eligible, as long as they have not released an entire album and they do not take home the prize.
While Gaga’s fans maybe pleased with this change spurred because of her, many others aren’t. And we agree with the latter, after all ‘New artist’, the category speaks for itself. You can’t be a ‘newcomer’ if you were already in any of the award nominations a year before. This change we believe is pointless, none the less Hail Lady Gaga.
