Octopus Paul inspires Hollywood movie DAM 999

Cynics might have dismissed his prognostications as fluke but the two year old mollusk has certainly a flair for clairvoyance. At least director Sohan Roy believes so. Roy is inspired by the Oracle master and his movie DAM 999, slated for release this December, features a fictional toy, Octopian Boy based on Paul. The Octopus accompanies a little boy, Sam (played by child actor, Jineet Rath) in all his adventures and is believed to have strange powers. The boy carries him wherever he goes as he thinks the Octopus would save him from all dangers. As DAM 999 promises to take us all to a roller-coaster ride, kids will hopefully love this fun-packed thriller involving the exploits of this wonderful mollusk.

Paul, the primary inspiration for this character, is, in the meantime enjoying his limelight. Paul’s unique career as an oracle began in UEFA 2008, successfully predicting in 4 out of 6 matches in the tournament. He shot to fame after the recently ended World Cup when he predicted all the outcomes of Germany’s matches, including the ill-fated semifinal clash between Spain and Germany and the final. He had his share of controversy when irate German fans threatened to kill him after he rightly predicted a victory for the Spanish Armada in the semi-final. State-security was promised for this star, even PETA took up the cause of this two-year old, now merely an exhibit in Oberhausen Sea Life Aquarium of Germany. With the film, Octopus Paul hopefully will come to limelight once again. All hail Paul, the Oracle-Master!
