Review- Prince Of Persia: It’s A Man Thing!

Its summer time and Hollywood is spoiling us with choices. First Iron Man II, then Shrek and now its Prince of Persia! You create any parameter or yardstick; still you can’t underestimate the super thrilling video game Prince of Persia on any of its aspects. The game itself has a mind boggling fan base. So when Disney decided to make a movie on it, it became evident that people will look forward to it with baited breath.

The lanky and boyish star Jake Gyllenhaal turned himself into all muscled hunk, and he plays the fighter prince Dastan in the movie. Usually movies based on video games are full of mindless action sequences, and most of the time story takes the back seat. Be it Max Payne, Hit Man or Tomb raider. But POP is not an action junk, because the makers of the movie have taken help from the creator of the game, Jordan Mechner. He has adapted this game for the big screen.

The base line of the 20 year old franchise is same as the video game. There is a villain king, who is going to unleash the deadly sand storm. Now, the prince has to stop him from doing that. He takes help from a rival princess who is his enemy. You may say that it is the same story shown in the game. To that I will say no, because Mechner has rewritten the story so that it can suit the screen. The game itself had a brilliant story line, with a lot of twists and turns. Few of those things are intact in the movie and few new twists have been incorporated, which keeps you glued to the screen till the end.

The leading men, Jake as prince and Kingsley, have portrayed their role brilliantly. In fact Kingsley has overshadowed Jake at many places. Arterton also did judgment to her screen time.

The movie has a humorous undertone. But above all it’s the CGI, Camera Work and breath taking epic battle scenes which steals the show. The music is also very brilliant. If you have loved the game, then you are gonna enjoy the movie for sure. The only things you need to keep in mind are that the movie is not a ditto copy of the game, rather it has its own course, so don’t be judgmental.

The other thing which I would like to add is that POP is purely a man thing. Girls are not gonna enjoy it much, so try to go with your friends and it will be a roller coaster ride for you. You don’t see such movies every now and then.
