The talk show queen bestowed her generosity on the employees of her magazine ‘O: The Oprah Magazine’, by gifting each of them with an iPad and a cheque of $10,000, to mark the publication’s 10th anniversary.
“As a thank you for their hard work and dedication, Oprah Winfrey surprised the staff of O, The Oprah Magazine with an Apple iPad and a check for $10,000, to commemorate the magazine’s 10th anniversary,” a magazine spokeswoman said.
O, a monthly magazine was first published in April 2000. In 2002 Fortune called O, the most successful start-up ever in the industry. Since its first issue, O has always seen Oprah exclusively on all its covers, except for an April 2009 issue where Oprah shared the cover with the First Lady Michelle Obama and a December 2009 issue, where she shares the cover with Ellen DeGeneres.
This is not the first instance when Lady O, has been so open hearted. Brought up in extreme poverty herself, Oprah is known for showering expensive gifts. Once on her talk show, she took the audience by surprise by gifting them a car each. She is also deeply involved in charitable works and runs a charity organisation, Oprah’s Angel Network’, that raises funds for other charitable organisations set up for the benefit of underprivileged. The administration expenses for this organisation are borne by Oprah herself, thus the entire amount of funds raised is used for charity only.
Oprah who was the First-African –American Women to become a billionaire, shot to fame with her talk show- The Oprah Winfrey Show. She is also the first women in History to own and produce her own talk show. The Talk show is slated for an end in 2011. Oprah is now concentrating on launching her own cable TV network, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, which is expected to go on air in January 2011.
A radio channel, a website, two magazines and now a Television Network , Oprah is clearly emerging as a media mogul and we are sure that her motivated and dedicated staff who she gives such pleasant surprises too, go all out to in helping her become the leader in her industry.
