Top Bollywood revenue grossers become brand ambassadors for the Income Tax Department

Their names are synonymous to box office hits and ringing cash registers, they therefore charge hefty fees for starring in any movie and hence as a result are the biggest tax payers in Bollywood. They are none other than Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan.

These two highest tax payers have now been roped in by the Indian Income Tax department as their brand ambassadors and will soon be seen in a documentary film promoting the Income Tax Department.

The IT department will be turning 150 years old next week and to mark the same a documentary film has been made highlighting the journey of the departments and how the revenue generated through direct taxes is used for development work in the the country. The 20 minute film will be released by Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee next week. The film will also have an abridged version of 8 minutes.

Apart from Aamir and Akshay, the film also stars Priyanka Chopra. The documentary is narrated by Om Puri. On the documentary’s star cast a source stated "The ensemble which includes Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra represent the youth and spirit of the country. They are successful and pay their income tax responsibly."

Akshay’s hits after hits and his endorsement deals have seen his revenues multiply year after year. He had paid Rs. 31 crore as tax last year and has already paid advance tax to the tune of 18 crores this year. While Akshay has been the top tax payer in Bollywood for two years, he is followed by Aamir Khan in the second slot and Shahrukh Khan in the third.

While Aamir is known only to appear in advertisements with public messages now, Akshay too feels staring in something like this documentary is his chance to give back to the society what he has received and hence he would love to spread awareness about the necessity of paying taxes.

Let’s hope these stars add some spice in the otherwise bland Income department promos.
