“Whip It” whips the box office pretty well!

Drew Barrymore’s directional debut “Whip It” is out in the circuit and has earned around $4,650,812 in its third weekend. Currently 6th according to box office survey, the film trails behind Zombieland, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, in its third weekend and Toy Story/Toy Story2 3-D double feature, Surrogates, The Invention of Lying in its second weekend. The film has received favorable reviews from critics, with The Movie Review Query Engine Metric of 69 based on 87 articles.

Whip It is a comedy flick based on cross’ novel Derby Girl and written by Shauna Cross. It released on October 2nd, 09 in the US. Sexual content including crude dialogue, language and drug material resulted in a PG -13 rating for the film.

The story is about Bliss (Ellen Page), a girl who is constantly being pressured by her mother to enter in beauty pageants. Bliss thinks she is a misfit for beauty pageants and that isn’t something she was meant to do, so she follows her heart and joins a Roller Derby League instead. She finds her heroes in these girls. She has no idea how to skate until Maggie Mayhem (Kristen Wigg), one of her teammates, asks her to be her own hero. Bliss realizes her goals and starts rolling day in and day out, she soon finds out that she skates pretty well, and in an effort to join the league, tells her parents she will be taking SAT preparation classes. Her mom falls for it and goes ecstatic about the fact that her girl has matured and she is taking some initiative in her life. But soon mom finds out and everything changes since then.
