The very first lines of Rihanna in her first major television interview after she was assaulted by then boyfriend Chris Brown were “I am strong”. As she spoke with Diane Sawyer on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” she described about the humiliation she went though because of her troubled relationship.
Rihanna said she was so much in love with Chris that she was ready to return to him a few weeks after the beating. But she soon realized that her actions would endanger her relationship with her fans. She also tried to act as a role model for all those girls who have been in troubled or abusive relationship. She clearly did not want those girls to follow Rihanna and go back to their abusive partners.
When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result into some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part,” the singer said. “I couldn’t be held responsible for telling them, ‘Go back.’ Even if Chris never hit me again, who’s to say their boyfriend won’t? Who’s to say they won’t kill these girls? These are young girls, and I just didn’t realize how much of an impact I had on these young girls’ lives until that happened. It was a wake-up call.”
She confessed that she did not part ways with Chris to protect herself but she did it to shepherd the fans who follow her less significant choices like hairstyle, clothes and attitude, away from making a big mistake.
Rihanna’s way of addressing her fans has surely made her an icon for all the females. The star was highly humiliated when her battered and bruised pictures were leaked on the internet on all her fans were surfing the net to have a look at her. Rihanna was too humble to point that out to the media and her fans, instead she did something which would help many of her fans in their own personal relationships.
