The shorter format of Cricket Twenty Twenty (aka T20) seems to be living true to its promise of enhancing the popularity & visibility of cricket across the globe. Cricket in its shorter format is all set to create history in the annals of more than 150 years of international cricket by being welcomed by the Americas. US cricket council has made preparations to play the role of host for two T20 matches between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Lauderhill’s Central Broward Regional Park, Florida headquarters of Cricket Council of USA.
Surely, the two matches would be gifts to 15 Million Cricket followers in USA. T20 has shown greater potential to spread the game across the globe than its older rivals One Day International and Test Matches as it seems to coincide with shorter attention spans of audience in Western Countries. Another indicator of T20’s potential of spreading cricket is the inclusion of Afghanistan team in the T20 World Cup 2010.
Has T20 started a cricket revolution in the land of USA and in many other cricket loving nations? Can T20 move cricket from the second spot to the first spot of worldwide popularity as most watched spectator sport? Well, the destination seems to be very distant and T20 needs to walk miles before it goes to sleep. Miles to go before I sleep…. Miles to go before I sleep….
