President Barack Obama’s popularity has taken a serious beating in the last eighteen months. At least an opinion poll conducted by Washington Post/ABC News shows that 60 percent American’s lacked faith in Obama’s decision making qualities. This is in stark contrast to a poll eighteen months ago when 60 percent of the Americans had expressed faith in him!
The popularity of Democratic and Republican legislators is as dismal, if not more. 68 percent of the respondents said they were believed that Democratic legislators could not make the right decisions for them. But this does not hint at an overwhelming swing in favor of the Republicans. Indeed their performance is poorer! 72 percent people believe they have no faith in Republican legislators.
Anti-incumbency in America was the sentiment captured by the survey as 62 percent voters have declined to support their present representative. 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 36 of the 100 Senate seats will be filled up by a process starting with the November 2 election. The Republicans have just one reason to smile as a very thin majority believed voting Republicans to power was “necessary” to keep Democrats in check.
Experts are of the opinion that the expectations from Obama were too high, and especially with the economy on a downslide.
