The Bellingham middle school is a place for 580 students who come here every weekday to study. It was just another day for the school authorities and the students on Wednesday. Little did they know that the next morning they would wake up and find their school reduced to nothing but ashes!
It was 1am on Thursday when a tremendous fire broke out in the school building. Too add to the misery, there was heavy wind blowing all around which fanned the flames to a humongous size. The fire was so strong and spread so quick that the firefighters did a quick search of the school and found no one inside before they were forced to withdraw.
The fire burned until dawn and all they could do was to watch the 106 year old building collapse and get reduced to ashes. The cause of the fire is still unknown. School District spokeswoman Tonya Rowe said the building was undergoing a seismic retrofit.
The school authorities are searching for a new space to accommodate the students and resume school activities.
