The two main political parties took Indian polity to a new low, with BJP President Nitin Gadkari asking the Congress, whether the delay in hanging Afzal Guru was because the Congress considered him as its “son-in-law”, and official spokesperson of the Congress, Manish reacting by suggesting that the BJP President had “lost his mind” and was in need of serious “psychiatric help”.
“The remark smacks of obscenity, obnoxiousness and obtuseness. It is very obvious that the esteemed president of the BJP has lost it completely. The BJP should take pity on him and put him into a psychiatric facility. The man needs serious help,” remarked Tiwari.
The BJP then came down heavily on Manish Tiwari, while tactfully supporting Mr. Gadkari. The party opined that the sentiments of the victims affected by Afzal’s terrorist activities, against the Congress were very strong and the BJP President was only reflecting this in an apt way. Ravi Shankar Prasad questioned the language used by the Congress, which he called undignified.
Political dignity and civility has reached a nadir, with the two main National parties indulging in mudslinging of the lowest order, with none less than a party President and an official spokesperson indulging in it. The Congress has also shied away from responsibility as a ruling party. "If something untoward happens we will not be responsible", party spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said.
