The CBS producer Robert Joe Halderman who blackmailed the Late Shows host David Letterman actually wanted to take revenge for sleeping with his lover Stephanie Birkitt. Halderman’s main motto was to make Letterman’s life miserable by threatening to expose him, money wasn’t the main factor. But Later Halderman was busted for this blackmailing where he threatened Letterman that he’ll go public about his secret affair with Birkitt who was a staff on his Late Show.
It all began in December last year when Halderman, then living with Birkitt, learnt about their secret affair by going through her personal diary. He then asked his girlfriend to end her relationship with Letterman in order to stay together with him. But she broke up with Halderman instead. This breakdown of relationship with his girlfriend provoked Halderman to take vengeance. In early September he left a screenplay in Letterman’s limo which revealed the details of his affairs. Last Thursday Letterman shocked his audience by admitting his illegitimate affairs and that he was a victim of blackmailing. This confession was made hours after Halderman was arrested.
