Joe Rollino, the strong man dies in a car crash

Joe Rollino, termed as the Strong man of New York was killed in a car crash. The 104 year old veteran was crossing a street near his home in Brooklyn. He was knocked down with fatal injuries on head and chest. His pelvis was reportedly broken. Though he was rushed to the hospital after the accident, Joe succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. At the peak of his career, Joe weighed 68 kgs and was counted among the strongest men of his time.

He was a strong vegetarian through out his life and till recently could still bend the coins through his fingers. Rollino started his career as a strongman in 1920. He was a part of the Oldtime Barbell and was a member of the Strongmen organization. He was a much respected man who bravely took part in the World War II. He became a traveling boxer and adopted a name as Kid Dundee.

Louis Scarcella, 59 who was his fellow companion in the Coney Island Polar Bear Club, New York’s oldest winter swimming club said that Rollino was popularly called as “Great Joe Rollino’. He also said that Joe was a great man who had a strong will to survive. The preliminary investigations have ruled out the possibility of high speed car or alcohol consumption as the reason behind the strong old man’s unexpected death.
