Hindus are asking French actress Fanny Ardant (Ridicule) to exhibit her short drama “Chimères Absentes”, being shown at upcoming Rome Film Festival, to Pope Benedict also to make him aware about Roma (Gypsy) apartheid happening right under his nose in Europe.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in USA today, applauded Ardant for taking up the cause of helpless Roma through this film, which tells the story of Sonietcka, a little Roma girl not admitted at the school refectory owing to her family’s poverty.
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that maybe after seeing Ardant’s film, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI would openly embrace the Roma cause. Zed argued that Jesus Christ clearly told the world to help the helpless, defenseless and downtrodden and love them, and He showed the way. The Pope, being the acclaimed representative of God on earth, should raise his voice against continuous Roma maltreatment. The Pope should recognize, acknowledge and affirm the Roma as children of God who deserved to be treated like all other people—as equals.
“Chimères Absentes”, a film directed and written by Fanny Ardant against Roma discrimination, stars Ardant herself, Francesco Montanari, Paolo Triestino, and inhabitants of Roma camp Chimères. Filmed in Rome and Lazio in Italy in Italian, it is made by Dorje Film. Produced by Fondazione Cinema per Roma, Fifth International Rome Film Festival will be held from October 28 to November 5 at Rome’s Auditorium Parco della Musica. Gian Luigi Rondi is the President while Francesca Via is the Director General of the Festival. Total of 146 films will reportedly be shown at the Festival.
Ardent will reportedly meet the audiences during exhibition of this film and will explain her commitment towards the recognition of the Roma rights, and her fight against prejudices about them. Roma were a hot topic in Ardant’s home country France where President Nicolas Sarkozy ordered crackdown on Roma sometime back and created an unprecedented row between France and European Union.
Addressing the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe in Strasbourg (France) on June 22, Lumiere Award winner Ardant, 61, declared: “We say Dosta! (which means enough) To injustice, humiliation, ignorance and violation of human rights.” She further said that society had proved to be barbarian to Roma people.
Rajan Zed urged other celebrities like Oscar winner Angelina Jolie (Changeling), Oscar nominated singer-musician Bono, Golden Globe winner entertainer Madonna (Evita), etc., to undertake the cause of apartheid of about 15-million Roma people of Europe. Many Hollywood and other celebrities had successfully worked against South Africa’s apartheid in the past.

Do not be afraid of yoga, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed tells practitioners of different faiths.
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism and lives in Nevada (USA), in a statement today, said that although introduced and nourished by Hinduism, yoga was a world heritage to be utilized by all. One could still practice one’s respective faith and do yoga. Yoga would rather help one in achieving one’s spiritual goals in whatever religion one believed in. It was not at odds with any faith and rather made one spiritually healthier. Question of spiritual confusion was irrelevant as yoga brought more clarity in thought.
Rajan Zed further said that yoga, referred as “a living fossil” whose traces went back to around 2,000 BCE to Indus Valley civilization, was a mental and physical discipline handed down from one guru to next, for everybody to share and benefit from. According to Patanjali who codified it in Yoga Sutra, yoga was a methodical effort to attain perfection, through the control of the different elements of human nature, physical and psychical. Yoga was based on an eightfold path to direct the practitioner from awareness of the external world to a focus on the inner.
According to National Institutes of Health, Yoga may help one to feel more relaxed, be more flexible, improve posture, breathe deeply, and get rid of stress.
Swami Vivekananda reportedly brought yoga to USA in 1893. According to an estimate, about 16 million Americans now do yoga.

Hindus and Jews have strongly criticized the advertising campaign in Switzerland reportedly likening Roma migrants to rats and thieves, calling it racist and xenophobic.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, and Rabbi Jonathan B. Freirich, prominent Jewish leader in Nevada and California in USA, in a joint statement in USA today, demanded that this campaign should be immediately banned and legal action taken against those behind it.
Rats were reportedly shown nibbling at Swiss cheese in these posters that went up in some Switzerland towns. Stigmatizing an entire ethnic group of helpless Roma was highly inappropriate, Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, and Rabbi Freirich, argued.
Switzerland; the country of Albert Einstein, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Jeremias Gotthelf, Max Frisch, Roger Federer, orphan girl Heidi, cosmopolitan Geneva, Lausanne cathedrals, Valais wines, Red Cross, World Economic Forum, International Olympic Committee, dozens of Nobel laureates, and mountain high life; should be more mature, accepting and welcoming; Rajan Zed and Jonathan Freirich pointed out.
Doris Leuthard is President of Swiss Confederation.

Today afternoon, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court is supposed to deliver its verdict on Ayodhya land dispute case. It is a crucial moment for India when it is tested for its commitment to secularism and the rule of law.
We do know that in 1992 a sixteenth century mosque named Babri Masjid in Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) was damaged by Hindu extremists, claiming that it was the actually the birth place of their deity Rama. The site has been disputed for centuries, and post independence, no unanimous stand could be taken on it. Today, things can change for good once and for ever.
Expectations are high as the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court will read the verdict. There have been appeals by political leaders to maintain restraint. Prime minister Manmohan Singh has opined that even if some quarter is dissatisfied after the verdict, which is to be delivered this afternoon, there are due mechanisms to take care of their complaints, making it clear that verdict is not the last word in case there is disagreement.
Bollywood celebrities too have joined political leaders while calling for calm. Ranbir Kapoor while promoting upcoming “Anjaana Anjaani” said at a press gathering on Thursday that we are known for our unity: If you disagree with the verdict please don’t resort to violence. There are peaceful methods to resolve it. Please maintain peace and order. Co-star Priyanka too echoed a similar opinion. She said that whatever may be the verdict, we should maintain peace and harmony as it is a very important day for India, reports apunkachoice.

Katherine Jackson and Michael Jackson’s children are suing AEG Live — claiming the company breached its agreement to provide physical care for Michael Jackson — and that AEG was negligent in their hiring of Dr. Conrad Murray as MJ’s physician.
In the suit, Katherine claims AEG’s contract with Michael "created a legal duty for AEG to act reasonably toward the physical well-being of Michael Jackson."
In the document, Katherine also blames AEG for hiring Dr. Murray without a proper background check — claiming, "AEG did not provide a doctor who was truly looking out for Jackson’s well-being and did not provide equipment."
The suit also alleges AEG caused emotional distress to Michael’s son Prince because he witnessed Michael suffering and dying, and "he was put in a position as bystander to these tragic events."
Kenny Ortega, who produced the planned London concerts for Michael, is also named as a defendant.
The attorney who filed the suit, Brian J. Panish, released a statement saying, "The purpose of this lawsuit is to prove to the world the truth about what happened to Michael Jackson, once and for all."
