Facebook – FarmVille causes a baby’s Death – Mother charged

The social networking sites have become a rage and the games that one plays in it has been taken quite a lot of time. Some has become so obsessed with the online farming and building projects that they are losing the sense of the real world. Last January a mom from Northern Florida just murdered her infant son because of the disturbance he caused while the mom was playing FarmVille in Facebook.

Alexandra V. Tobias has been charged with murder of her 14 month old son named Dylan Lee Edmondson. The 22year old mom has been charged with second degree murder and might just face 25 to 50 years behind the pars according to the prosecutors.

On Wednesday, Tobias pleaded guilty of the charges and stated that she got angry when her son won’t stop crying while she was playing FarmVille. She shook him hard and while doing that the baby’s head might have hit the computer and soon after that he stopped breathing.

When Tobias made the 911 call she told that her dog has knocked the baby off the couch and he stopped breathing, later on she accepted her crime to an inmate and has stated her mother’s death as acted as a stressor.

This is not the first time an unwanted or criminal incident has happened due to Facebook or a social networking site. While the microblogging and the networking is in the raise so are the crimes related to it.

‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ will stay – Gay militaries face recruiting challenge again

The gay right activists celebrated the injunction on the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ ruling after Judge Virginia Phillips called it unconstitutional on and later on in Oct’ 12 she put an injunction on the 17year old ruling. In the DADT measure the people serving the military would not divulge about their sexual orientation, if they did and the authorities found out that they were homosexuals, the military recruits would be discharged.

While Judge Phillips took up the suit filed by Log Cabin Republicans six years ago and called the DADT unconstitutional and from Oct’ 12 the Pentagon allowed recruiting of the homosexuals, on Wednesday the Justice Department filed a suit asking for the stay order of the DADT.

In the 9th US Court of Appeals the three-judge panel granted the stay but didn’t issue any reason but stated that it is giving the court the time to pursue the issue fully and present it. At the moment though the cases regarding the homosexuals have been suspended by the Pentagon but it is unlikely with this new stay order the authorities will recruit any more homosexuals at the moment.

President Obama wants to repeal the DADT ruling but the Obama administration went for a stay order so that the Defense Department can study and see how the repeal of the ruling will affect the system. (ENSNN)

Facebook – Microsoft: Join hands for User friendly ‘Bing’ search

If Facebook and Microsoft can have their way they would soon be putting Google on its back-foot as the social networking site and the computer giants have joined hand to put the Microsoft’s Bing search part of the Facebook. This search experience would be different from that of one familiar with the Google search.

The new Bing Search: this new search system will enable the user to have a personalized search result, as the search result will mark the list of the friends of the user who have “liked” the result via Facebook and other sites that use the similar “like” tags. The search name would not only bring in the result but also under the Facebook category it will include the Facebook profile of the search result.

Reason for revamped Bing Search: Most might have thought that Microsoft has spearheaded this venture with Facebook, but it is actually the other way round. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook has made the tie up to stall the relentless attempts made by Google to get a better foothold on the social networking domain.

Till now Google has failed to make much of an impact and Facebook has taken away the market created by Orkut, so the search giants are now more than eager to get their footing back. Google’s senior user-experience designer Paul Adams has already made a presentation of the flaws that Facebook have and Google would now work on that to develop something which might hit the world within few months and even may be within weeks.

This has raised the concern bell of Zuckerberg, so he is trying to get as much force and partnership as possible to prevent this possible onslaught made by Google. The new Bing search will be in effect from Wednesday. (ENSNN)

BlackBerry might face Ban in few countries – security jeopardized

Few nations are concerned over the security threats that the BlackBerry poses as the data are routed abroad. The countries like India, Indonesia, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates feel that since the data the users of BlackBerry provided or get are via servers located on internationally territories and route via overseas it can be intercepted by others and can violate the nation’s security system.

India wants the data that are processed or used by the Indian BlackBerry users to be accessible by the law enforcement and intelligence department from the Research In Motion Ltd the makers of BlackBerry. Unless RIM agrees to do that India is going to put a ban on the Smartphone. The ban was to be enforced from Aug 31 but now they have given 60 days more to RIM to conduct the research on how feasible India’s demand of data accessibility is.

Like India, Indonesia too is concerned about foreign countries intercepting the country’s data. Hence Indonesia wants to have a RIM server in its country so the data is not routed to offshore.

Both Lebanon and Saudi Arabia are in the process of reviewing the security threat that BlackBerry might pose. Saudi Arabia has already stopped the BlackBerry service across the kingdom but it is not clear if this ban will be permanent and if not for how long it will be in effect. UAE too is starting to put on a ban on the BlackBerry’s e-mail, Web browsing and instant messaging from Monday, but on Friday some kind of deal was made, however, details about it were not made public yet.

Will this likely ban or threat of doing it affect BlackBerry and its popularity in these nations? (ENSNN)

Upset Hindus want New Zealand TV presenter charged with racism and terminated

Perturbed Hindus are asking for immediate termination of New Zealand TV presenter and charging him with racism and xenophobia for reportedly ridiculing Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and New Zealand Governor-General Sir Anand Satyanand.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that reported making repeated fun of Sheila Dikshit’s last name was plain bigotry and was not acceptable. There was nothing to be laughed at “Dikshit” as it was a well-meaning word in Hinduism, which simply meant “initiated”.

Governor-General Sir Anand Satyanand, personal representative of New Zealand’s Head of State Queen Elizabeth II of New Zealand, was born and raised in Auckland, attending Richmond Road School in Ponsonby, and Sacred Heart College in Glen Innes. He had been a Judge in a number of courts in the Auckland area, a Parliamentary Ombudsman and was awarded the New Zealand Commemoration Medal and made a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for public services. How much more “proper and authentic” New Zealander one could be as reportedly questioned by presenter Paul Henry, asked Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism.

An official website media release dated October five quoted TVNZ CEO Rick Ellis as saying that Henry “does a magnificent job” and “is one of New Zealand’s best broadcasters” and “speaks his mind and that is what many New Zealanders like about him”. It seemed like the company was glorifying this presenter instead of being ashamed of his actions, Rajan Zed argued.

Zed stressed that freedom of speech never meant that one ridicule others for no other reason than their ethnicity. It seemed like a deliberate attempt to humiliate Hindus/minorities.

New Zealand Parliament refused to consider Zed’s request in 2008 to amend its prayer procedure/structure for making it more inclusive and universal. New Zealand was now a multicultural country where religion encompassed more than one tradition, and it included Anglicans, Catholics, Presbyterians, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Spiritualists, etc., besides many with no religious affiliation and should be more accepting and welcoming, Rajan Zed pointed out.

The commentator Henry is reportedly a breakfast show host at state-owned channel TVNZ, which claims to be New Zealand’s leading television and digital media company “designed to foster a sense of national culture and identity” and its role is defined as “to reflect and explore what it means to be a New Zealander”. Sir John Anderson is Chairman of TVNZ Board.

New Zealand, a geographically isolated country in southwestern Pacific Ocean of the size of Colorado, is one of least crowded countries (population around 4.3 million) with beautiful landscape, which includes fjord-scarred shores, snowy peaks, and sheep dotted pastures. Food, beverages and tobacco are its largest exports. John Key is the Prime Minister.
