Bangalore: In a shocking revelation, Bangalore based techie Ashish Goel committed suicide after his wife allegedly threatened him with a false dowry harassment case if he does not pay 1 crore to her.
Fearing that the dowry laws are heavily loathed against a man, Ashish killed himself by hanging at his BTM Layout residence leaving behind a suicide note which clearly implicated his wife in his death.
Ashish, a resident of Aligarh got married to Ruchi who hailed from Meerut. It is learnt that Ruchi came to know about Ashish’s pre-marital affair and that became a constant source of torture for Ashish as Ruchi left his home three months after marriage. Later, Ashish brought her to Bangalore, but was being pressurized from Ruchi’s family to take up a job in Meerut.
Ashish got a call from Ruchi on June 20 in which she apparently demanded Rs. 1 crore from him failing which she would file a dowry harassment case against him and his family. This threat acted as the trigger for Ashish committing suicide.
Interestingly, the Mico Layout Police inspector refused to register a suo motu case against Ruchi despite the suicide note clearly holding her responsible for the suicide. He said he would book even a dog if a woman files a complaint against it.
It is pertinent to mention here that when a married woman commits suicide within 7 years of her marriage, due to any reason, immediately the husband and his family is thrown behind bars without any investigation under Section 304B and 498A of the Indian Penal Code.
This bias exists against men despite the fact that every year almost double the number of married men commit suicide compared to married women as per official suicide statistics from National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). NCRB records say that from 2005 – 2008, 223, 167 married men have committed suicide vis-à-vis 1,18,345 married women.

This is not the end, this continuous harassment will lead to many more suicides (which are actually forced and should be infact termed as murder) of husbands and their family members who are physically, mentally and financially harassed to such an extent that they have no other option left.
Most men underestimate the threats and harassment by wife before marriage and hence they just do not know where to go when they face abuse and demands from wife or father-in-law.
Men are the disposable gender and its ok for society when men die and society gives no justice to such men.
Issues like this are termed as legal terrorism by even the Supreme Court of India, there are not only affecting men but entire families, which includes women(around 28 percent of the total arrested in IPC 498a is women themselves, that too without any investigation or evidence!), minor children and senior citizens. Interesting, a husband dies, and no action against wife. And if wife is fit and fine, and goes to police and complains that husband harasses her, husband is put behind bars. Wow what a legal system India has.
With such evil , lop-sided and tyrannical laws, it isn’t surprising that we are such a third world nation.
Perhaps it is time for may to stop an introspective and localized view on this subject and consider this political scenario. It has become endemic throughout the world in various forms and different policies. There is a word and that word is ‘Pogram’, what we have here is a blanket political policy of pogramism, specifically targeting one gender for a known outcome. Whether males suffer the same fate in upper outer Mongolia, or downtown Manhattan, US is irrelevant. There is a policy enacted by every bureaucratic socially autistic individual possible by proxy for quota’s and incentives from the Top down. The policy makers have an agenda and worse a motive. I think for the more deeper thinking, the policy and it’s effects are self evident. The sad part of course is the very gender it seeks to protect actually serve to cause their own demise. For this we need to look at where similar policies were acted out before, and what were the results.

yeah, its 200% a clear and true picture that now a days wives are only torturing their hubs in 101 difefrent ways. I dont know y there is no law where I can put my wife in the bars. Its been a regular picture in my married life, there is no one to listen my words. as i have a son i have to think twice & thrice to suicide. but i know that after suicide she will be getting married with another boy and torture his life also.
remember if i also 1 day suicide the government is the sole responsible authority.

I am also a victim of misuse of 304B. My in-laws are AWARE of the fact even they lodged an FIR. Currently I am on Bail from Patna high court BUT after coming from jail my office has NOT allowed me to join (waiting for their reply since 9th sept, 2010). I was a senior software engineer in a MNC in NCR.
Incident Details:
1. We are blessed with twin baby boys in sept, 2009
2. My office planned to send me London so I took them to my native place.
3. Planned was postponed after this she assumed that I did not want to keep her with me so I made a false story (even after showing the VISA she was not ready to believe me).
4. I was not taking her back here because my VISA was valid till 13-Apr-2010, so office may send me any time and one more important reason was take care of twins will be difficult for her.
Now we come to know that wife of my brother-in-law(who has lodged the FIR) has also committed suicide in 2001 and they were also facing similar case. My wife (before marriage) was also in one of the accused. Three accused arrested/surrendered in court and my wife was sent to his MARRIED sister.
Six year latter they married this girl to me in 2007 with changed (duplicate) name against her wish. She wanted to marry younger brother of her brother-in-law, where she was hidden during police investigation in 2001. She had started threatening us like she will commit suicide and you all will be forced to sell each bricks of this well furnished home. We had informed her Father, Mother and Brother many times.
She was studying in class 7 at the time of incident (2001) with the same as in FIR lodged against them. I think they did not follow the process of name change like making affidavit and publishing in the news paper.
We have their FIR No, Anticipatory bail request number at Patna high court and we are in process of getting the complete case details. My father-in-law was a army personal so we are also trying to get her name from his service record.
Now I want to know that whether it will be helpful in defending us or making a counter case against them.
